Our History

Itik Ku Productions was set up by Maziah Omar and Alan Humberstone in 1999 on their return from Southeast Asia. Originally set up as Nusantara – the only Southeast Asian performing arts company in the UK and Kayu Gangsa –playing a unique style of gamelan music which is a fusion of the traditional gongs, drums and xylophones of the Southeast Asian original with a contemporary western edge.

 

As well as promoting work in the UK, Itik Ku has arranged tours, performances and events in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland as well as Southeast Asia. Itik Ku also organised the annual Malaysia Fest in Trafalgar Square for the five years it ran, has produced programmes for clients such as British Airways, Tourism Malaysia, Manchester United, Air Asia and was involved in the Opening Ceremonies and related cultural programme of the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur and Manchester and also the 2006 Commonwealth Day celebrations at Westminster Abbey in the presence of the Queen and Commonwealth Heads of Government.
